Grand Rapids Woman Loves Her Solar Power System!
Grand Rapids, Ohio resident Lea Harper was enraptured by her 5.7 kW solar power system. Harper installed 22 Canadian Solar CS6P 260 watt poly-crystalline panels to go along with her SMA Sunny Boy string inverter. Her panel efficiency is over 16% while her inverter efficiency is 96%.
"It's really beautiful, I love looking at the panels," said Harper. "My husband loves to watch the meter run backwards."
Her system is forecasted to produce 7,500 kWh of electricity per year. This is enough to offset the burning of two tons of coal. Based on a state average of $0.12 per kWh, this would be savings of nearly $900 per year.
"It's a ten year payback, it adds value to the house, and solar panels are beautiful."
Harper contacted YellowLite in May of 2015 and her solar panels were installed in October. When asked what the deciding factor was between YellowLite and other solar companies, Harper said it was solar consultant Cody's professionalism. "It was Cody and his customer service and continuous follow-up. I'm the only person in town who has solar. I live on a busy road and I wanted to make a statement."
Harper said she had been thinking about going solar for years. As an avowed environmentalist she wanted to add panels to go along with her hybrid electric vehicle.
"We have climate change to deal with. Everyone should think about what they can do to help. I have a granddaughter. She's known as the girl at school with the solar panels."
Harper says she was the first person in town to go solar and hopes that others follow in her footsteps."We just need to get more used to the idea of solar, be more proactive, and cut down on our fossil fuel usage."
The equity that has been added to the Harper house is approximately $17,500. It should be noted that the added equity value to your property is based on a rate of $3.11 a watt from the latest research but it is always a good idea to contact your realtor.
