Hudson Resident Enthusiastic About His Solar Power System
Hudson resident Bob Dyer is enthusiastic about his 3.5 kW solar power system. Dyer installed fourteen Canadian Solar C56P model 255 watt poly-crystalline panels to go along with his SMA Sunnyboy string inverter. His panel efficiency is over 16% while his inverter efficiency is 96%.
"I became familiar with solar through my work, my kids are older and left the house, and we wanted to downsize," said Dyer. "So we called YellowLite. They were fantastic."
Dyer's system is forecasted to produce more than 4,500 kWh of electricity per year and will offset his electricity bill by 38%. This is also enough to offset the burning of more than two tons of coal per year. The environmental offset was what was important to Dyer. A self-described environmentally conscious person, he loved the fact that he would be doing something to limit his carbon footprint.
"The way I look at it as a consumer there are two reasons why someone would be interested in solar. The first would be there are cost advantages of the savings and you would have interest in it because you'd be able to save money. And second, if you are environmentally sensitive, compassionate, and it feels like the right thing to do. My wife and I fall into the second category. We approached it not as an economic venture, but we saw it as us being very concerned for our natural environment. We looked around and nobody around us was looking to take the first step. We were."
Dyer contacted Yellowlite in the summer of 2014. His system was installed in September of 2014. In terms of dealing with the city, taking care of the city inspection and utility interconnection, Dyer stated that YellowLite took care of everything. "I didn't need any more hassles. YellowLite took care of everything."
Dyer had been thinking of solar for several years and the time became right for him to go ahead with the installation. However, the process was not without complication. "Sometimes Hudson can be very difficult to deal with from an architectural standpoint," said Dyer. "YellowLite went to all the meetings, spoke to the city, to the utility. They did everything."
