New London, Ohio resident Steve Adcock is overjoyed with the production from his 16.08 kW solar power system. Adcock installed 48 SolarWorld 335 watt mono-crystalline panels to go along with his two SMA Sunny Boy string inverters. His panel efficiency is over 17% while his inverter efficiency is 96%.
“When we moved into our home we had baseboard heating and the first month’s electric bill was $700. So my family wanted to put solar panels in to be more economical,” said Adcock. “Of course we stopped using the baseboard heating in the same way and only used it to heat the rooms in our house we used the most. After that our winter electric bills were around $300-350 a month while in the summer time our bill was around $200-225.”
His system is forecasted to produce around 21,200 kWh of electricity per year. This is enough to offset the burning of nearly 10.6 tons of coal per year. Based on a state average of $0.12 per kWh, this would be electrical savings of over $2,500 per year, or around $210 per month.
“The environmental benefit was just an extra throw-in to me. I’m glad we’re not burning coal or gas to get our power, but the economic savings was the important part.”
Adcock contacted YellowLite in May of 2015 and his solar panels were installed in July. When asked what the deciding factor was between YellowLite and other solar companies, Adcock said it was YellowLite solar consultant Cody Cooper that made the difference. “Believe it or not I did research online and found three companies. And yet…I called all of them and YellowLite was the only one to call me back. Cody came out and gave us a quote. He was awesome.”
The equity that has been added to the Adcock house is approximately $48,000. It should be noted that the added equity value to your property is based on a rate of $3.11 a watt from the latest research but it is always a good idea to contact your realtor.
“I love the panels. I think it looks futuristic. I’ve never heard one person tell me that solar was anything but beautiful.”
Asked about his experiences working with YellowLite, Adcock was very satisfied. “I have a whole stack of Cody’s cards so I’ve been referring people to YellowLite ever since. The installation people were awesome, YellowLite always returned my calls and emails. I think the total amount I spent was around $31,000 after we got $13,000 back in tax credits from the government. So we’ll recoup the investment in about 10-12 years.”
