Shaker Heights, Ohio Woman Ecstatic For Her Solar Array
Shaker Heights, Ohio resident Bonnie Gordon is ecstatic with her 2.55 kW rooftop solar energy system. Shaker Heights is in a trendy, bustling suburb just southeast of Cleveland, Ohio.
"I knew I needed a rooftop and I had just bought the house and I initially first heard about solar roof tiles. I found out I wasn't a good candidate for the tiles so I decided to look into panels," said Gordon.

Ms. Gordon's 2.55 kW solar power system is powered by 10 Canadian Solar CS6P 255 watt panels with up to 16% efficiency. She has one SMA Sunnyboy 3kW TL 240 inverter with 96.7% efficiency. Her solar energy system generates just over 3,400 kWh of electricity per year. This is enough power to offset the burning of 1.7 tons of coal per year. At $0.13 a kWh that means she is saving around $440 a year off her electricity bills. " YellowLite designed a system that was going to cover 80% of my electrical usage. My electric bills are about $20," said Gordon. The panels have a power performance warranty of 25 years.

Gordon is environmentally conscious and is happy to hear that she is offsetting 1.7 tons of coal from being burned. "I do all kinds of environmental things. I'm fanatical about renewable energy when it comes to my lights, my water usage. I recycle. I compost. I ride my bike. I even have only one air conditioner instead of getting central air. In the winter, I reduce the temperature every month by one degree until it's 63 degrees in February. I don't think it's cold, I wear long underwear in the house."
To continue her environmental leanings, Gordon is planning on purchasing a hybrid in the near future. "I'm planning to get an electric vehicle or a hybrid as soon as my old car dies or my daughter goes to college. Then I'll think about expanding my system."
